Tele-rehabilitation vs. Face-to-Face Exercises After Total Hip Arthroplasty .
FACE-TO-FACE EXERCISES ARE NOT SUPERIOR TO TELE-REHABILITATION IN RECENT POST-OPERATIVE TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY: A RANDOMIZED CLINICAL TRIAL.
Acta Ortop Bras. 2025 01-Apr;():. 10.1590/1413-785220243201e278202Twenty-four patients early after primary THA were randomized to supervised, clinic-based face-to-face exercises (n=14) or home-based tele-rehabilitation using an illustrated booklet plus weekly monitoring calls (n=10) for six weeks. The primary outcome of interest was functional capacity (HHS, TUG). Secondary outcomes included pain (NPS), kinesiophobia (Tampa), active hip ROM, and isometric peak torque (abductors, extensors, flexors, internal/external rotators). Outcomes were assessed pre-intervention and within 7 days post-intervention by a blinded assessor. Overall, the study found no between-group differences post-intervention across outcomes; both groups improved HHS, and strength and selected ROM increased within groups, with TUG improving significantly within the tele-rehabilitation group. These findings suggest tele-rehabilitation is a safe, low-cost, and accessible alternative to early, supervised clinic-based rehabilitation after THA.
