A prospective randomized study comparing woven polyglycolic acid and autogenous vein conduits for reconstruction of digital nerve gaps
J Hand Surg Am. 2011 May;36(5):775-81. doi: 10.1016/j.jhsa.2011.01.030. Epub 2011 Apr 12The optimal management of a nerve gap within the fingers remains uncertain. Thus, 76 nerve repairs (42 patients) were randomized to either autogenous vein or polyglycolic acid conduits to compare their sensory recovery, cost, and complication profile. Results at the 12 month follow-up indicated that the sensory recovery as well as the cost profile were similar between both treatment groups. Although the vein conduit group demonstrated fewer postoperative complications, this difference was not statistically significant.
