Foot and Ankle Surgical Incision Closure With Three Different Materials
J Foot Ankle Surg. 2022 01-Jul;():. 10.1053/j.jfas.2021.11.010One hundred and twenty-four patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery were randomized to receive either nonabsorbable sutures (n=42), absorbable sutures (n=42), or staples (n=40). The primary outcomes of this trial were to determine wound healing using the Additional treatment, Serous discharge, Erythema, Purulent exudate, Separation of deep tissues, Isolation of bacteria, and Stay as an inpatient (ASEPSIS) and Hollander Wound Evaluation Scale (HWES) scores at 2 and 6 weeks. No significant differences were noted between all groups at all time points with regard to ASEPSIS and HWES scores.
