Comparison between surgery and physiotherapy in the treatment of small and medium-sized tears of the rotator cuff: A randomized controlled study of 103 patients with one-year follow-up
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2010 Jan;92(1):83-91.103 patients with symptomatic small (<1cm) or medium-sized (1 cm to 3 cm) rotator cuff tears were randomized to be managed with either a surgical repair or a conservative management with physiotherapy. At 1 year, it was observed that the surgery was superior to physiotherapy for small and medium-sized tears of the rotator cuff, with better results on the Constant scale, ASES scale, and reductions in pain.
