Do patients benefit from tourniquet in arthroscopic surgeries of the knee?
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2013 May;21(5):1125-30. doi: 10.1007/s00167-012-2094-3. Epub 2012 Jun 155 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) (471 participants) were evaluated to compare whether arthroscopic visualization for surgeons and operative time differed between patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery with or without a tourniquet. The results indicated that no significant differences in arthroscopic visualization and operative time existed between the two groups, thus indicating that surgeons would not achieve any benefit from using a tourniquet during knee arthroscopy.
