Addition of Surgeon-Administered Adductor Canal Infiltration to the Periarticular Infiltration in Total Knee Arthroplasty: Effect on Pain and Early Outcomes.

Sixty patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either standard periarticular infiltration (PAI) (n=30) or PAI combined with surgeon-administered adductor canal infiltration (SACI) (n=30). The primary outcome was pain control, assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) scores and morphine consumption. Secondary outcomes included functional measures like knee flexion and Timed Up and Go (TUG) test scores. Outcomes were evaluated at 6, 24, and 48 hours postoperatively. Overall, the results revealed that adding SACI significantly reduced pain (VAS scores and morphine consumption) within the first 6 hours postoperatively without affecting early functional outcomes.
