Randomized controlled trial of suprascapular nerve blocks for subacute adhesive capsulitis

Thirty-five patients with subacute adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive either a suprascapular nerve block with ropivacaine (n=19) or saline (n=16). The primary outcome of this trial was shoulder function using the Constant-Murley Score after 4 weeks. Secondary outcomes assessed range of motion and shoulder pain intensity 4 weeks after the last injection. No significant differences were reported between the ropivacaine and saline groups after 4 weeks with regard to Constant-Murley scores, range of motion, and pain intensity.
