Supervised Vs Home Schroth Exercise Programs For Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis .
A Comparison of the Effects of Supervised versus Home Schroth Exercise Programs with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis.
Children (Basel) . 2024 Mar 17;11(3):354.Thirty-seven patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were randomized to receive either a supervised Schroth exercise program (n=19) or a home-based Schroth exercise program (n=18). The primary outcome was trunk symmetry, measured using 3D surface topography. Secondary outcomes included health-related quality of life (SRS-22), perception of cosmetic deformity (WRVAS), and scoliometer measurements of body rotation. Assessments were conducted before and after 12 weeks of intervention. Overall, the results revealed significant improvements in both groups for body rotation, quality of life, and cosmetic deformity perception, with no significant difference between the groups, except in thoracic asymmetry improvement, which was more pronounced in the supervised group. The findings suggest that both supervised and home-based Schroth programs effectively improve trunk symmetry and quality of life, though supervised exercises may lead to slightly better results in specific areas.
