Superior IKDC Scores and Reduced Laxity with ACL+ALL Reconstruction vs ACL Reconstruction Alone .

Anterolateral ligament reconstruction improves the clinical and functional outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in athletes.

Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy (2020): 1-8.

One hundred and seven male athletes (102 completed follow-up) were randomized to receive an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction plus an anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction or an ACL reconstruction alone for the treatment of ACL and ALL tears. The outcomes of interest included the anterior drawer test, Lachman's test, pivot shift test, instrumented laxity measured with the KT-1000 arthrometer, Lysholm knee scores, Tegner activity scores, and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) knee scores. Results of this study demonstrated that ACL-R plus ALL-R results in significantly favourable pivot shift test scores, reduced knee laxity, and favourable IKDC scores compared to ACL-R alone. No significant differences were observed between the two groups in the anterior drawer test, Lachman's test, Lysholm knee score, or Tegner activity score.
