Cervical collar or physiotherapy versus wait and see policy for recent onset cervical radiculopathy: Randomised trial
BMJ. 2009 Oct 7;339:b3883. doi: 10.1136/bmj.b3883.205 patients suffering from symptoms of sub-acute cervical radiculopathy were randomized to receive a cervical collar, physiotherapy, or to the wait and see method (usual care). Insufficient evidence for the effectiveness of these non-surgical treatments currently exists. The results of this study indicated that both cervical collar and physiotherapy interventions produced a reduction in pain compared to the control group following six weeks of treatment. The cervical collar also produced improvements in functional scores when compared to the control group.
