Strength Training + Acupuncture for Chronic Ankle Instability .
Effect of strength training with additional acupuncture on balance, ankle sensation, and isokinetic muscle strength in chronic ankle instability among college students.
Front Physiol . 2024 Apr 5:15:1324924.Forty-six patients with chronic ankle instability were randomized to receive strength training combined with acupuncture (n=24) or strength training alone (n=22). The primary outcome of interest was the improvement in balance ability. Secondary outcomes included changes in ankle motion perception, isokinetic muscle strength, and scores from the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool (CAIT). Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after 8 weeks of intervention. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the experimental group, which received strength training and acupuncture, demonstrated greater improvements in balance and muscle strength compared to the control group. The findings suggest that acupuncture can enhance the effectiveness of strength training in patients with chronic ankle instability.
