Dr. T Holmgren discusses exercise strategies for patients with subacromial impingement syndrome.
102 patients were randomized to examine the effectiveness of specific exercises in treating subacromial impingement syndrome and preventing the need for surgical intervention. Patients received either a specific exercise strategy (which targeted the rotator cuff and scapula stabilisers) or unspecific movement exercises for the neck and shoulder (control). Results at 12 weeks revealed that significantly more patients in the specific exercise group reported better shoulder function and pain scores than those in the control exercise group.
