Soft Tissue Mobilization with Blood Flow Restriction Training for Patellofemoral Joint Pain .
Effect of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization combined with blood flow restriction training on function, pain and strength of patients with patellofemoral joint pain.
BMC Musculoskelet Disord. 2023 Aug 31;24(1):698.26 patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome were randomized to receive a 4-week program of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) plus blood flow restriction (BFR) training (n=13) or IASTM alone (n=13). The outcomes of interest included knee pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Lysholm knee scores, Modified Thomas test (MTT), and knee extensor strength, assessed after 1 treatment and upon completion of treatment. The combination group reported significantly greater pain scores after 1 treatment and after completion of treatment compared to the IASTM only group. However, Lysholm scores were higher in the control group after treatment. No differences in other outcomes were observed.
