Soft bandage, splint or cast as the treatment of distal forearm torus fracture in children: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Seven studies involving 1,550 children with distal forearm torus fractures were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis, comparing soft bandage, splint, and cast as treatments. Pooled outcomes assessed pain levels, clinical healing, return to activities, adverse events, and patient/parental satisfaction. Results indicated splints were associated with slightly higher initial pain but faster return to activities compared to casts. Bandages showed marginally increased pain on the first day but were comparable to rigid immobilization (splints/casts) thereafter. Overall, all methods achieved clinical healing within 3–4 weeks, and complications were minimal. The findings suggest that soft bandages or splints are viable first-line treatments due to patient satisfaction, minimal complications, and cost-effectiveness.
