2026 SLARD Annual Meeting: Comparison of the Efficacy of Platelet-Rich Plasma vs Corticosteroids in the Treatment of Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy

OE Journal. 2026;14(11):2760 patients with rotator cuff tendinopathy were included in this controlled clinical study comparing ultrasound-guided platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections with ultrasound-guided triamcinolone injections. Outcomes of interest included pain measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and shoulder function assessed using the Western Ontario Rotator Cuff (WORC) Index. Both treatments significantly improved pain and function in the short term; however, PRP demonstrated greater and more sustained improvements from 6 months onward. Overall, the findings suggest that PRP provides superior long-term pain relief and functional recovery compared with corticosteroid injections for rotator cuff tendinopathy.
