2026 SLARD Annual Meeting: Cannulated Screw vs Dynamic Hip Screw in Garden I or II Femoral Neck Fractures

15 studies comprising 4170 patients with undisplaced (Garden I–II) femoral neck fractures were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing cannulated screws (CS) with dynamic hip screw (DHS) fixation. Pooled outcomes included avascular necrosis, non-union, revision surgery, mortality, and postoperative infection. The analysis found no significant differences between CS and DHS for avascular necrosis, non-union, mortality, or revision surgery. However, CS fixation was associated with a significantly lower risk of postoperative infection. Overall, the findings suggest that both fixation methods provide comparable outcomes for most complications, though CS may offer an advantage in reducing infection risk.
