A comparison of three methods of wound closure following arthroplasty
J Bone Joint Surg Br. 2006 Feb;88(2):238-42102 patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) and 85 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to receive one of three different methods for wound closure. The primary outcome was the development of wound complications. Results indicated that the 3 methods had comparable outcomes. However, the authors of the study suggest skin staples to be the best option for skin closure in for both hip and knee total arthroplasties.
