Similar effectiveness of the open versus endoscopic technique for carpal tunnel syndrome: a prospective randomized trial

OE Journal. 2016;4(8):11 Eur J Orthop Surg Traumatol. 2015 Dec;25(8):1253-6050 patients diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) via electromyography were randomized to receive either endoscopic or open carpal ligament release surgery as treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare the functional and electrophysiological outcomes of endoscopic surgery when compared to open surgery after a follow-up period of up to 12 months. Results demonstrated that no significant differences were found between study groups in any outcome measures at all follow-up points, indicating that endoscopic surgery was as efficacious as open surgery in the treatment of CTS.
