A comparison of proximal and distal Chevron osteotomy, both with lateral soft-tissue release, for moderate to severe hallux valgus in patients undergoing simultaneous bilateral correction: A prospective randomised controlled trial

Bone Joint J. 2015 Feb;97-B(2):202-7
Contributing Authors

KB Lee NY Cho HW Park JK Seon SH Lee

50 patients with bilateral moderate-severe hallux valgus undergoing operative treatment were randomized to be treated with distal Chevron osteotomy or proximal Chevron osteotomy. Both procedures were performed with an additional distal soft-tissue release procedure. Follow-up for clinical and radiographic outcome was scheduled at 3, 6, and 12 months, with mean follow-up of 40.2 months. Results demonstrated both groups improved significantly in American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score, hallux valgus angle, intermetatarsal angle, and tibial sesamoid position, with no significant differences detected between groups.
