Forty-six patients who sustained thoracolumbar burst fractures presenting with incomplete neurological deficit were randomized to receive pedicle screw fixation with indirect decompression/ligamentotaxis (n=18) or pedicle screw fixation with direct decompression (n=28). The outcomes of interest included neurological examination through the American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) Impairment Scale, spinal canal diameter, dual sac area compromise (DSC), and neurological recovery. All outcomes were measured at 1 year follow-up. The results revealed that no statistically significant differences were observed between the direct and indirect decompression groups in all outcomes.
