Comparison of Different Materials and Proximal Coatings Used for Femoral Components in One-Stage Bilateral Total Hip Arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2015 Dec;30(12):2237-41Twenty-one female patients undergoing one-stage bilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to either the CentPillar GB HA stem or the CentPillar TMZF HA stem. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different femoral component materials, such as Ti6Al4V alloy with a hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on a proximal grit-blasted (GB) surface and Ti12Mo6Zr2Fe alloy with a proximal coating of hydroxyapatite over an arc-deposited titanium surface coating, over an average of 5.5 years. Results indicated that there were no differences in clinical outcomes between groups, however, the hydroxyapatite coating on the grit-blasted surface femoral component had a greater incidence of radiopaque lines.
