A Randomized Trial Comparing Ceramic-on-Ceramic Bearing vs Ceramic-on-Crossfire-Polyethylene Bearing Surfaces in Total Hip Arthroplasty

OE Journal. 2016;4(16):7 J Arthroplasty. 2016 Jun;31(6):1240-592 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to either a ceramic-on-ceramic or ceramic-on-highly-crosslinked-polyethylene bearing surface. The purpose of this study was to compare the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Index (WOMAC) pain, stiffness, and function scales, the RAND 12-Item Health Survey, and complications, including revision and loss of fixation, between groups over 10 year follow-up. The results demonstrated no significant differences between groups for all patient-reported outcome measures. No complications related to the received liner were documented.
