Similar Clinical Outcomes with Adductor Canal Block and Femoral Nerve Block in ACL Reconstruction .

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with the use of adductor canal block can achieve similar pain control as femoral nerve block.

Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2020 Aug;28(8):2675-2686.
Contributing Authors

H Min Y Ouyang G Chen

Eight studies including 587 patients undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction were included in this meta-analysis comparing adductor canal blockade and femoral nerve blockade administration for the reduction of pain relief post-operation. The primary outcome of interest was pain scores post-operation. Secondary outcomes of interest included cumulative opioid consumption, quadriceps muscle strength, patient satisfaction, the incidence of nausea and vomiting, and the incidence of pruritus. Meta-analyses results revealed no significant differences in all pooled outcomes between the two treatment groups. Quadriceps muscle strength could not be analyzed due to insufficient and heterogeneous data.
