Prospective Randomized Study of Objective and Subjective Clinical Results Between Double-Bundle and Single-Bundle Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

Am J Sports Med. 2016 Apr;44(4):855-64

150 patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears were included in this study to compare the objective and subjective clinical results of double-bundle and single-bundle ACL reconstruction after a 2-year follow-up. Patients were randomized to receive a double-bundle hamstring tendon graft or a single-bundle patellar tendon graft. Outcomes measures included range of motion, knee flexion, side-to-side and anterior laxity, rotational laxity, heel height difference, Tegner activity score, and the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS). The results of this trial indicated no differences between groups in knee range of motion, laxity, or patient-reported outcome measures at the 2-year follow-up.
