Single-level instrumented posterolateral fusion of the lumbar spine with a local bone graft versus an iliac crest bone graft: a prospective, randomized study with a 2-year follow-up

OE Journal. 2014;2(5):34 Eur Spine J. 2011 Apr;20(4):635-982 patients with L4 degenerated spondylolisthesis were randomized to undergo posterolateral fusion with either a local bone graft or an iliac crest bone graft to compare the impact of the two techniques on bone union and clinical outcomes. Following evaluations over a 24 month period, the results indicated that bone union was similar between groups, but that longer surgical time and more donor-site complications were associated with the iliac crest bone graft group.
