Randomized Controlled Trial Comparing Silver-Impregnated Fibrous Hydrocolloid Dressings With Silver Sulfadiazine Cream Dressings for the Treatment of Fracture Blisters to Determine Time to Surgical Readiness.
J Orthop Trauma. 2021 Aug 1;35(8): 442-447.One hundred and twenty eight patients with fracture blisters and associated fractures requiring operative fixation were randomized to receive silver-impregnated fibrous hydrocolloid dressing (SFH) (n=64) or silver sulfadiazine (SS) (n=64) prior to surgery. The main outcome of interest was surgical readiness determined by complete re-epithelialization of the affected sites. Secondary outcomes of interest were cost-effectiveness, time to surgery and length of stay. The SFH group had a significantly shorter time to surgical readiness than the SS group. The SFH group cost less than the SS group with respect to total cost of treatment until surgical readiness. No differences in time to surgery or length of stay were noted.
