A Sixteen-Year Follow-up of Three Operative Techniques for the Treatment of Acute Ruptures of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2006 May;88(5):944-52147 patients with ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament were randomised to undergo one of three surgical procedures. The three procedures were acute primary repair, acute repair augmented with a synthetic ligament-augmentation device, and acute repair augmented with autologous bone-patellar tendon-bone graft. The primary outcomes were pain and function. The results indicated that the primary repair intervention resulted in significantly greater revision rates compared to the other two procedures.
