SICOT2018: Assessing efficacy of ESWT for treatment of bone marrow edema syndrome .
COULD THE ESWT BE A VALID OPTION TO TREAT THE BONE MARROW EDEMA SYNDROME OF THE KNEE?: PRELIMINARY RESULTS IN A PROSPECTIVE RANDOMISED STUDY
20 patients with bone marrow edema syndrome of the knee were randomized to treatment with either extracorporeal shockwave therapy or bisphosphonate therapy. Patients were assessed for outcome over the first year of follow-up. Results demonstrated no significant difference in Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), visual analog scale pain scores, or resolution of bone marrow edema on MRI.
