2026 SICOT Annual Meeting: Accelerated versus standard Ponseti method in the management of idiopathic clubfoot: A systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical outcomes
OrthoEvidence Journal (OE Journal) - ACE Report
Epub Ahead of Print
3 studies involving 160 pediatric patients with idiopathic congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing accelerated versus standard Ponseti casting protocols. Pooled outcomes included Pirani scores, number of casts, treatment duration, tenotomy rates, and complications. The accelerated Ponseti method significantly reduced treatment duration by 18.3 days and required 0.81 fewer casts compared with the standard protocol. Both approaches demonstrated comparable improvements in Pirani scores, tenotomy rates, and overall complication rates. These findings suggest that accelerated Ponseti casting may provide similar clinical outcomes while reducing treatment burden and improving accessibility to care.
