Comparative Study of The Results of Single-Level Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF) Using Local Bone Graft With & Without Bone Marrow Aspirate
64 patients with lumbar instability, lumbar disc bulge or prolapse, or lumbar canal stenosis were randomized to receive either single-level posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) using local bone graft with (n=32) or without bone marrow aspirate (n=32). Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and radiological outcomes using Brantigan, Steffee, & Fraser (BSF) criteria. The group that received bone marrow aspirate showed better clinical and radiological outcomes but the results were not statistically significant.
