SICOT 2023: Liposomal Bupivacaine in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Meta-Analysis .
Efficacy of liposomal bupivacaine in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
7 randomized controlled trials (442 patients) that compared the efficacy of liposomal bupivacaine (LB) to nonliposomal local anesthetic agents (NLAA) for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and postoperative opioid consumption. There were no significant differences in VAS pain scores between groups. Subgroup analyses of pain and opioid consumption were in favor of the LB group on POD 1 & 2, and POD 1, 2, & 3, respectively but the results were not clinically meaningful. The LB groups showed a significant reduction in opioid consumption.
