Preoperative photography improves patient satisfaction following hallux valgus surgery
Foot Ankle Surg . 2022 Jun;28(4):492-496.Twenty-nine patients who underwent hallux valgus surgery were randomized to a picture group (n=15) who were shown their pre-operative photograph for 5 minutes at each post-operative visit, or a control group (n=14). The outcomes of interest included foot function index, foot and ankle score, hallux valgus angle, intermetatarsal angle, and patient satisfaction, up to 6 months post-operation. Results revealed no significant differences in foot function index, foot and ankle score, hallux valgus angle or intermetatarsal angle between the two groups at all time-points. However, patient satisfaction was significantly higher in the picture group at 3 and 6 months post-operation.
