The analgesic efficacy of sciatic nerve block in addition to femoral nerve block in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Anaesthesia. 2016 Oct;71(10):1198-209Twelve randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis evaluating the analgesic effect of an additional sciatic nerve block to either a femoral nerve block or lumbar plexus block in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The addition of a sciatic nerve block led to pain scores that were significantly lower over the first 12 hours postoperatively, and analgesic consumption that was significantly lower over the first 48 hours postoperatively when compared to groups treated with just femoral nerve block or lumbar plexus block alone.
