Comparing the effects of single shot sciatic nerve block versus posterior capsule local anesthetic infiltration on analgesia and functional outcome after total knee arthroplasty: a prospective, randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial
J Arthroplasty. 2014 Jun;29(6):1149-53One hundred patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to either femoral nerve block (FNB) alone, FNB combined with a sciatic nerve block (SNB), or FNB combined with posterior local anesthetic infiltration (P-LIA) to evaluate the analgesic efficacy of each. Patients were assessed over 3 months based on pain and function. The evidence presented in this study revealed no significant differences between analgesic regimes.
