Effects of the Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Technique on Scapula Function in Office Workers with Scapula Dyskinesis

Medicina (Kaunas). 2021 Apr 1;57(4): 332.
Contributing Authors

M Hwang S Lee C Lim

Forty-two office workers with scapula dyskinesis were randomized to receive 6 weeks of scapular movement control exercises (n=14), scapular muscle strengthening exercises (n=14), or scapular muscle balance exercises (n=14). Outcomes of interest included the scapula index, Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score, and scapula upward rotation range of motion at various humeral abduction angles. Outcomes were assessed upon completion of the 6 week protocol. Scapula upward rotation at 0° humeral abduction, DASH pain scores, and DASH work ability scores were significantly better in the movement control group compared to both the muscle strengthening and balance groups (p<0.05 for all). Additionally, scapula index scores and DASH sports scores were significantly in favour of the movement control group compared to the muscle strengthening group (p<0.05 for both).
