Effectiveness and safety of motion-style acupuncture treatment using traction for inpatients with acute low back pain caused by a traffic accident: A randomized controlled trial.

One hundred patients with acute low back pain resulting from a recent traffic accident were randomized to receive either T-MSAT combined with integrative Korean medicine treatment (IKMT; n=50) or IKMT alone (n=50). The primary outcome was the change in numerical rating scale (NRS) scores for low back pain from baseline to day 4 of treatment. Secondary outcomes included changes in visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, Oswestry disability index (ODI), range of motion (ROM), and quality of life measures, with assessments conducted at discharge and 12 weeks post-enrollment. Overall, the study demonstrated that T-MSAT led to a faster reduction in pain scores compared to IKMT alone by day 4 (p<0.001), but differences were not sustained at discharge or at the 12-week follow-up. The findings suggest T-MSAT is effective for rapid initial pain reduction in acute low back pain.
