The efficacy and safety of aspirin in preventing venous thrombosis in major orthopedic surgery: An updated meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Although aspirin is safe and cost-effective, it is less effective than other anticoagulants in preventing venous thromboembolism following major orthopedic surgery. Zusammenfassung der Studie
17 randomized controlled trials including 29,522 patients with conditions requiring major orthopedic surgery were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing aspirin versus other anticoagulants. Pooled outcomes of interest included venous thromboembolism (VTE), proximal deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), bleeding events, wound complications, wound infections, blood transfusions, and the incidence of death. The analysis showed a significantly higher incidence of VTE, DVT, and PE in the aspirin group compared to other anticoagulants, with no significant differences in all other outcomes. The main findings suggest that aspirin is less effective than other anticoagulants in preventing VTE in the context of major orthopedic surgery.
