Effect of duloxetine on pain relief after total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

In this meta-analysis, six randomized controlled trials compared duloxetine against placebo in patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Outcomes of interest were pain measured on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at rest and with movement, equivalent morphine consumption, length of stay, and adverse events. Pain scores with movement favored duloxetine at 24 and 72 hours, and 5 days, whereas pain at rest favored duloxetine at 24, 48, and 72 hours after TKA. Morphine equivalents also favored the duloxetine group at 24, 48, and 72 hours. All other outcomes were similar between duloxetine and placebo.
