Injection of the Subacromial Bursa in Patients with Rotator Cuff Syndrome. A Prospective, Randomized Study Comparing the Effectiveness of Different Routes
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2012 Aug 15;94(16):1442-7.75 patients with rotator cuff syndrome were randomized to receive a subacromial injection of corticosteroid using the anterior, lateral, or posterior approach. The results of the study indicate that the posterior route for subacromial injection is less accurate than the anterior and lateral routes. The posterior route was also less accurate among females than males. Therefore, the posterior route is the least accurate method of subacromial injection in females.
