Robotic assisted versus conventional total knee arthroplasty in obese patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

5 studies including 979 obese patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) vs conventional total knee arthroplasty (C-TKA). Pooled outcomes of interest included operative time, complication rates, estimated blood loss, postoperative hip-knee-ankle (HKA) alignment, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement (KOOS JR), Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and Knee Society Score (KSS-FS) functional outcomes. RA-TKA demonstrated significantly longer operative times but slightly improved postoperative HKA alignment compared with C-TKA, while no significant differences were observed in blood loss, complication rates, WOMAC outcomes, or KSS-FS scores. Overall, the findings suggest that RA-TKA may improve radiographic alignment precision in obese patients, although this did not translate into clinically meaningful functional advantages over conventional techniques.
