Robot-assisted rehabilitation following total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of pain, strength, and functional recovery outcomes.

6 randomized trials including 309 patients recovering from total knee arthroplasty were included in this meta-analysis comparing robotic-assisted rehabilitation (e.g., wearable exoskeletons) vs. conventional physiotherapy. Outcomes of interest included knee extension and flexion, knee flexion strength, post-operative pain, walking speed, and length of stay. Pooled meta-analysis results revealed no significant differences in all outcomes, with exception of knee flexion strength where a slight improvement in favour of robotic-assisted rehabilitation was observed. Overall there does not appear to be evidence of clinical superiority with robotic-assisted rehabilitation compared to conventional physiotherapy for this patient population.
