Clinical application of modified Crain classification in the Design of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction with remnant preservation

Seventy patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries suitable for reconstruction were randomized to receive an ACL reconstruction with remnant preservation designed using the modified Crain's classification system (n=35) or ACL reconstruction without remnant preservation (n=35). Outcomes of interest included knee function, measured using the Lysholm score and International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, the Lachman test score, and operative time. Whilst operative time was significantly longer in the remnant preservation group, knee function was significantly better in both measures up to 6 months post-surgery compared to the no preservation group.
