The efficacy of continuous versus single-injection femoral nerve block in Total knee Arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Eight studies including 624 patients were included in this meta-analysis comparing continuous and single-shot femoral nerve blockade for pain relief in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty. Outcomes of interest included pooled pain scores and opioid consumption, as well as the pooled rate of post-operative nausea and pooled length of stay. Results revealed significantly favourable pooled pain scores at 24 hours post-operation, as well as opioid consumption at 24 and 48 hours post-operation, in favour of the continuous femoral nerve blockade group. No significant differences in the pooled results for length of stay or incidence of post-operative nausea were observed.
