Iliotibial band autograft versus bone-patella-tendon-bone autograft, a possible alternative for ACL reconstruction: a 15-year prospective randomized controlled trial

OE Journal. 2015;3(1):19 Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2014 Sep;22(9):2094-101.60 patients scheduled for primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction were randomized to receive either an iliotibial band autograft (ITB) or bone-patella-tendon-bone (BPTB) autograft. This study aimed to investigate whether an ITB autograft is a reliable long-term alternative to a bone-patella-tendon-bone (BPTB) autograft in ACL reconstruction. Results demonstrated no significant differences in re-rupture rates, functional or clinical outcome scores between groups at 15 year follow-up.
