Quadratus lumborum block vs femoral/fascia iliaca block for hip surgeries: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Six randomized controlled trials including 230 patients undergoing hip surgery were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing quadratus lumborum block (QLB) versus femoral nerve block (FNB) or fascia iliaca block (FIB). Pooled outcomes of interest included 24-hour opioid consumption, pain scores at multiple timepoints, quadriceps weakness, and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). The analysis showed that patients receiving FIB/FNB had significantly lower opioid consumption at 24 hours, while pain scores, quadriceps weakness, and PONV were not significantly different between groups. These findings suggest that QLB does not offer superior analgesia compared to FIB or FNB after hip surgery.
