Quadratus lumborum block for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Seven randomized controlled trials (429 patients) comparing quadratus lumborum block (QLB) against a control for total hip arthroplasty (THA) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) or Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) normalized to a 0-10 scale, up to 48 hours after surgery and opioid consumption 24 hours after surgery. A subgroup analysis was also conducted to compare the type of QLB block and the type of comparator (nerve block or sham). Pain scores, opioid consumption, and the incidence of adverse events were similar between the QLB and control groups.
