Postoperative analgesic effectiveness of ultrasound-guided transmuscular quadratus lumborum block in congenital hip dislocation surgery : A randomized controlled study.
Anaesthesist . 2021 Dec;70(Suppl 1):53-59.Forty children undergoing pelvic osteotomies for congenital hip dysplasia were randomized to receive a preoperative quadratus lumborum block (QLB, n=20) or local infiltration of the incision (n=20). The primary outcome of interest was pain measured with the face, legs, activity, crying, consolability (FLACC) scale. Secondary outcomes of interest were postoperative analgesic consumption and parent satisfaction. The QLB group demonstrated significantly better FLACC scores at all times points up to 24h postoperatively. The FLACC group also demonstrated lower requirements for rescue opioids and lower ibuprofen use postoperatively. Finally, the QLB group had higher parent satisfaction scores.
