Posterior Quadratus Lumborum Block in Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Anesthesiology. 2021 May 1;134(5): 722-733.One hundred patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive a preoperative posterior quadratus lumborum block with ropivacaine (n=50) or placebo (n=50). The primary outcome of interest was total morphine consumption at 24-h postoperatively. Secondary outcomes of interest included intraoperative sufentanil consumption, postanesthesia care unit morphine consumption, postoperative pain scores, time to first standing and ambulation, hospital length of stay and adverse events. Results revealed no significant difference in 24-h total morphine consumption between the ropivacaine or placebo group. Similarly, no differences in any secondary outcomes were found.
