Forty patients with chronic shoulder pain were randomized to receive pulsed radiofrequency (RF) treatment (n=20) or a suprascapular nerve block with local anesthetic (n=20). The primary outcome was pain intensity at rest and on movement. Secondary outcomes included shoulder range of motion, analgesic requirement, and adverse effects. Outcomes were measured at baseline, and 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after treatment. Overall, the study found that RF was more effective in reducing pain intensity, particularly at 2, 4, and 8 weeks, compared to nerve block. Both treatments significantly reduced pain from baseline without major adverse effects. Pulsed RF showed sustained analgesic benefits, making it a promising approach for chronic shoulder pain management.
