PRP vs. Steroid Injection for Plantar Fasciitis
Platelet-rich plasma has better mid-term clinical results than traditional steroid injection for plantar fasciitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Orthop Traumatol Surg Res. 2021 Oct;107(6): 103007.653 patients with plantar fasciitis from 12 randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis comparing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and steroid injections. The pooled outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) score. Results revealed significantly better pain relief in the PRP group at 6-18 months follow up, as well as favourable pooled AOFAS scores at 1 year follow up.
